Oatmeal Heath Bars...Mmmmmm

I came up with this recipe when I didn't know what to do with all of the candy that my parents and in laws load into our Christmas stockings! Don't get me wrong, I love me some candy, especially chocolate, Mmmmmmm....but we had a ton! I was really in the mood for something sweet and chocolaty but I didn't have any chocolate chips, so I used Heath bars and Hershey Kisses! It turned out sooooo yummy! I actually had enough Hershey kisses and Heath bars to be able to make three of these, at different times of course, but our New Year's resolution was to eat healthy, hmmm... What to do? Well, we can't let the candy go to waste! You will ditch your New Year's resolution for this recipe too!

Ingredients


1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup quick cooking oats
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 Heath Bars, chopped or pulsed in a food processor
About 10 Hershey Kisses, chopped in half or thirds


Topping:
1/4 cup quick cooking oats
2 TBSP butter, melted
3 Tablespoons all purpose flour
Pinch of salt


Directions

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and kosher salt. Add in the butter and mix well.

Lightly grease an 8 by 8 inch baking pan, or a 8 in cake/pie pan. Press the mixture in the bottom of the pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. 

Remove from oven and add Hershey Kisses and Heath Bar on top of the oatmeal mixture.
Mix the topping ingredients together and crumble over the chocolate.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15-17 minutes.

Cool completely before cutting into squares or triangles (like a pie) if using a round pan.
I can never wait too long though so I end up needing a spoon!
